| I like your quote, "If you believe, you can achieve anything." I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in Nov, 2000. My work (IBM) didn't give me a choice of coming back - they said needs of the business could not accomodate my need to be in the hospital during a relapse. (I've had two). But guess what??? Thanks mostly to watching YOU skate for Gold, you have inspired me to get back into a form of exercise that is reasonably low impact (provided I don't keep falling!!!) and gives me a good cardio without immediately wearing me out - the most common bummer for folks with MS. I'm 37, the father of 3, and my super wife is totally supportive! You should see the folks mouths around the neighborhood drop open like trap doors... "B...b..But YOU have MS???!!!" they say. Well, I'm taking interferon injections once every other day to hopefully slow the progress of MS, but I thought you might like to know that you helped put some of that "fire" back into me. You might not remember Mark Spitz, but he won 7 Gold medals - and his same coach had his eye on me at Leigh High School in San Jose - yep.... Same coach as Mark Spitz!! I loved to race. But my young adult years found my competitive gears whirring in road racing. I actually picked up two sponsors and was doing pretty good. Now, sadly, my Team Raleigh bike hangs up in the garage at my folks' house, and I guess I've been feeling pretty lousy trying to adjust to this disease that nailed me without warning. I can't skate for long, or for very far. But my daughters are behind me, as is my super wife - who has just taken up the sport herself. I'm sure I'll never get the chance to "lead the pack" - the most exhilarating feeling I ever had while cycling - but I guess in my own way I'm leading the pack of folks who have MS.... Most of 'em sit around and whine and compare the color of pills the doctors have 'em on! *grin* Now, I have found a bit of escape zipping up and down and around the parking complex here. I'm shooting for a bit more each day. I bought some K2 skates and I asked them if they'd give me a team jersey to wear while I was "out and about." I'm sure they won't - I've had to "win" all mine while cycling... Oh well... I guess somewhere in the back of my dreamy mind I have this wicked grin when I think how awesome it is for this 37 year old father of 3, living with multiple sclerosis every day, to have said no to "just going quietly" and who is now learning to skate late at night when everyone else is asleep. I won't ever get Olympic Gold, but at least I feel like I'm a few strides ahead of my disease! But anyway - congratulations on your work! I can only imagine how much time and training you put into your accomplishment of Olympic Gold! How great to have such a classy person represent the U.S. up on the podium! I wish you much further success - you have a drive that can serve as an inspiration to future track-skaters to follow in your footsteps. Glad I came across your website, Casey - It must be a super feeling to have such a great feeling of success and to be able to share that with your family. God Bless! |
| Dear Casey, You are my hero. I am a big fan of yours and now a big fan of speed skating. I am 8 years old and today I will get to try speed skating for the first time. I hope to be in the 2014 Olympics and win a gold medal like you did. It is hard to find speed skating coaches in California. But my mom found one that is 20 miles away. I am very excited about trying to learn to speed skate. Please write back. Your Fan, Joe Wise |
| Hi Casey! I really admire you. I think you are one of the fairest sportman in the world. The Olympic Games can be glad to have someone like you. Good luck for the future, Love, Petra Germany |
| Hey Casey, Congratulation with the gold medal on 500. You drived a very good first heat The 1000 was also good, but you can't get everything in life, and I am very happy that a Dutchman, who was training at the same oval in holland like me right now, has won the 1000. I hope you can finish a good skate- saison, enjoy fishing and hunting and your life , and be thankful to God for your good life. Maybe you can see me about 8 jears at the olympics(I hope so). >From your Dutch skatefriend, Jesse de Haan(14) |

Casey, congratulations with your Olympic Gold Medal!!! Im so glad you made it. Ive been visited this site a few times before your Golden Races and Im so glad you achieved your goal! Nobody could have done it better then you did! Of course I felt sorry for Gerard v. Velde (missed the Bronze Medal) but the Dutch guys did a great job at the 1000 meter. Well, I wish you the best for the rest of your career, hope to see you skating more of those Golden Races. Are you coming to Heerenveen to ride worldcups? Maybe I, and all the other fans of u who live in Holland can see u then. Greetings, Laurie, The Netherlands |

Hi Casey! Congratulations on your Gold Medal performances at the Olympics. Alan Carlson at Web Net contacted us earlier regarding using our logo on your site, linking to our www.cheetah.org site, which we were happy to have him do. Knowing that you feel an 'affinity' for the cheetah makes us doubly proud and we send our Greetings to you in the name of our important work to save this wonderful CAT, the wild cheetah, from extinction. All the BEST! Lee Swoboda |

| Congratulations, Casey! You were magnificent and inspiring in your quest for victory. My three sons (ages 8,8 and 7) couldn't wait to watch you and were thrilled when you won the gold medal. Now my son Sam wants to go out and become a speed skater! Since he has never been on a pair of skates, that should be rather interesting! I also very much appreciate the dignified manner in which you and Kip Carpenter conducted yourselves while taking a lap of honor, and during the medal ceremony. Your countrymen and women are very proud of you both, and we look forward to seeing you compete again in a few days. Best of luck always. Randy A. Krakower Competition Official, Track and Field (Long and Triple Jumps) Games of the XXVIth Olympiad Atlanta, 1996 |

| To Casey "Fast"randolfh, Congratulations with your golden medal at the men's 500 metre. It was an awsume race and i think one of the best skaters in world has won. The only two sad things about it were the fall of the Jeremy Whoterspoon and the fact that Gerald van Velde did achieve to get his deserved bronze medal. But although,I wish you the best in skating and in your live and enjoye your golden race for many years. I hope i will see you soon skating in Holland and bring us an new worldrecord back, because we deserve it. |

| Casey: I just watched you on the medal stand--congratulations on your golden performance. You're famous (I saw your quote in the papers today) and I had you in English class at Verona High School. I remember you skated in Europe for six weeks and I put together assignments for you to do on th road. I remember the journal you kept--especially your entry about men and women sharing locker rooms. You returned to Verona and turned in all your homework. I'm happy for you, Casey. I'd like to see Mrs. Borroughs shrine to you in the computer lab. I'm a principal in Monona now, but still keep in touch with Verona. Way to go, Casey. It's been fun watching such a nice guy succeed. Go for the Packers job--you've caught Mike Sherman's eye now!! |
CFs Gold medal in the SLOGs 500 metres was more than well-deserved.
I had the pleasure of monitoring the international press conferences during the 2002 World Sprint Championsships in the Vikingship, Hamar, where Casey once more ended up with silver. I found him both sympathetic and humble, and certainly hoped that he would stand on top of the podium in Salt Lake. My warmest congratulations! Gratulerer!
Winter sport greetings Mr. Tor Inge Martinsen Hamar, Norway |

Casey, Jeff, and Ruthie! I drove the poor office crazy today waiting for the results! I'd like to say so much more than congratulations! How about coming up for a fishing trip when you're done racing in another month or so? I'll line up a guide to take you out. The Walleye run in late March/early April here. Or you can fish for something else if you like. With that gold you're going to be all over the country, no make that the world, talking to people. Good luck finding time for yourself. Casey My husband and I went to Carroll College with you! We just wanted to wish you the best of luck at the olympic -- Bring home the GOLD! Best of Luck Jeremy and Lori Loy |
|
Casey... I'll have to admit, I tend not to follow speed skating as closely as I follow football, but forgive me. I live in Kentucky...some winters we don't even see snow, much less ice. So, it's Olympics time and I read up on everything...even Sports Marketing majors can't know everything all the time. :) The thing that struck me, aside from your obvious athletic gifts, is that you seem to be an extraordinary person who carries the burdens of fame with grace and humility. You, and not so many others that I've watched, have captured the spirit of the Olympics and not-so-highly publicized sport with your actions as a person, as well as your performance on the ice. Congratulations, and good luck in the 500m tonight. |
|
Casey, That was an impressive performance on your first Salt Lake 500mtrs. Ik wish you the very best for the second! Best Regards, Fons Janssen (Of course i hope our (Dutch) guys will win the 1000 and 1500 mtrs...) |
|
Hi Casey, Wow! Good race you skated yesterday. This looks pretty good for today's 500. Go for it! It would be great if you'd win a golden medal in your own country. By the way, I really felt sorry for what happened to Jeremy yesterday. I think he really deserves it to win an olympic medal; he's a fabulous skater! Hopefully he'll be able to forget about yesterday so that he'll get his revenge and skate a miraculous 2nd 500 and 1000 meters. I'm convinced he can do it. Please, wish him lots of luck on behalf of me. love, Merdeka |
|
Greetings from the Bay State Speedskating Club! I just saw your performance in the first 500 at SLC2002, and was very proud of your performance. Fantastic job. You prove that nice guys can finish first! Keep up the spirit that keeps speedskating such a fun sport. Good luck in the second 500. Go Casey, and Go Marc Pelchat (roll 'em hard in the second race!). |
|

Dear Casey I am so incredibly excited to see your first Olympic competition tonight. Please know that all the Kranz Family will be watching between 7:00 - 7:30 pm tonight. We will always consider you a good friend and have such fond memories of you and Jessi growing up. I remember bowling in the couples league with your mom and dad. Boy...is your father a competitor too!! Do your best Casey. We'll be here in Wisconsin praying for you. We love you very much!!!! Your old friend and neighbor, Pat Kranz |
|
Casey It was great to see you and your parents on TV at the last Olympics!! I know you will be a great ambassador for Wis and the USA throughout the Olympics. Good Luck and enjoy the moment!! Roger |
|
Casey, Well....its almost time for the big one, just a few weeks away. You've had an outstanding season....and on behalf of K2, I'd like to say "Congrats" on your outstanding World Cup accomplishments and your position as you approach the Olympics. Despite our changes at K2 this year, I've kept thecompany up to date with your performance and everyone here is cheering for you. One of the positive changes this year is the K2 skate division, which has set its own pace with the talents of you, Chris Witty, Anni Friesinger and others. While we are stoked and ready for all of the K2 skaters to win...the most energy is focused on you, our top American. In times like these, American heroes are important. So go into these games with a strong mind, a clear head and an awareness of who and what you represent. These coming days will be special, and though you may continue onto another Olympics...you'll never experience another U.S. based Olympics the way you will this February. To wrap this up...I'll be sending you all my best energy for this time. Not only as a sponsor but as an admirer. It is through you that I have been able to experience a little bit of the dream that I never realized.

Casey: My name is Marilyn Cepuran. I believe that you know my husband Carl and my son Eric. I was flying to San Diego on United this week for my global planning meeting and received in my box lunch a little brochure that had quotes about heroes. It was such a pleasant surprise to find you quoted in the brochure. Your quote was "Heroes are ordinary, every day people. Yet their actions are anything but." My team had had a particular hard year and I compiled your and the other 3 quotes from the pamphlet and opened my meeting with it. My team loved it. I told them about your wonderful results from this weekend and that they should definitely be looking for you to do well at the Olympics. Your quote fit in so well with my meeting plan. I had already chosen the theme "Awaken the Olympian Within You" because I am going to give away the book by the same title tomorrow to send them off. Eric Flaim and Dan Jansen wrote sections in it and Eric Flaim autographed them for my team. I also talked through the concepts yesterday of doing your best each and every day. I used the examples of setting personal bests from speedskating. They were truly inspired by your story and hopefully I have developed a few more speedskating fans. We are coming out as a family for the Olympic Trials and are really looking forward to watching you skate. It will be Eric's first time at the Olympic Trials, so we are excited for him too. Carl and I wish you the best of luck at the trials and at the Olympics. Thanks for being such a strong role model not only for my son to follow, but for my team as well. Good luck in February!
