“On the way to the Closing Ceremony, the people of Nagano lined the streets -- most simply wanted to touch an Olympian, and this amazed me. I jumped at the chance to play the drums at the Closing Ceremonies when handed a pair of drumsticks, even though I’m no musician.  And, in the middle of this incredible Olympic moment, I remember looking to the sky and saying a little “thank you”...Casey Fitz, from Verona, Wisconsin, in the middle of it all...dreams do come true!”

“The Olympics wouldn’t have been complete without the opportunity to experience s043Japanese culture. My parents participated in the Homestay Program, living with a wonderful  Japanese family for two weeks while in Nagano. After I finished competing, I got to spend time with the family too.  While the Olympic village was very “Americanized”, the family experience was truly “Japanese”.  Sleeping in an unheated bedroom on totami mats, dressing for formal tea ceremonies in kimonos, using chop sticks to eat sushi while seated on the floor...and bathing naked in the hot springs as a gesture of friendship, brought my Olympic experience full circle!”
